Each hour-long episode features interviews with survivors from the same disaster, each subject telling their complete story of survival from the peaceful moments beforehand to the arrival of the disaster and their triumphant survival. The stories are deeply personal, emotional accounts of an adventure - sometimes only a few hours in length - that changed the course of their lives in the aftermath. As if these nail-biting encounters weren’t enough on their own, layered alongside these stories is real news footage, cellphone video, and photographs of the events as they unfolded. Many of these disastrous events are permanently etched into our collective consciousness because of the massive global coverage they received. Dramatic re-creations of these cinematic moments of escape and survival will also be done for each survivor. In every spectacular disaster, there exists a moment of deep personal crisis for our storytellers, these moments paint an intimate portrait of what surviving a disaster means and what it looks like first hand.
