The Secret Agent
It is 1886 and the unassuming shopkeeper Anton Verloc is - unbeknown to his loyal wife Winnie - a longstanding Russian agent. Summoned to the Russian Embassy, he is given one month to achieve a violent mission: to blow up Greenwich Observatory, a strike at the heart of the establishment and on a symbol of new learning. If he fails, the Russians will reveal his identity as a spy to his vicious anarchist comrades. Caught between the Russians and the British police, he is reluctantly forced to draw his own vulnerable family into his terror plot, and, as his life starts to spiral out of control, Verloc’s attempts to fulfil his mission will have tragic consequences for them all.
